Zero Violations: Jacksonville and St. Augustine Restaurants and Food Trucks That Aced Their State Inspection
Chefs plating dishes in a spotless, professional restaurant kitchen operating under pristine sanitary conditions.
A perfect restaurant inspection is harder to get than you might think.
Since July 1, Florida inspectors have made a full routine inspection at 1,595 food businesses in Duval County. Only 38 of them had zero violations on their latest one. That's about 1 in 42.
In St. Johns County, home of St. Augustine, it was even rarer: 5 out of 364.
Jax Times went through every state inspection posted for both counties this fiscal year. Here's what a clean inspection looks like, who earned one, and how to check any restaurant yourself.
What counts as "zero violations"
Florida's Department of Business and Professional Regulation, or DBPR, inspects licensed restaurants, food trucks, caterers and other food service businesses. Inspectors record every problem they find as one of three types:
- High-priority: problems that could directly contribute to foodborne illness or injury
- Intermediate
- Basic
For this list, we counted only a business's latest full routine inspection, the first visit in an inspection cycle. We didn't count follow-up visits. If an inspector finds problems and comes back to check that they were fixed, that follow-up can show zero violations. But the business didn't pass the first time, so it's not on this list.
Every business here had no violations of any kind on its latest full inspection. The state recorded the result as "Inspection Completed - No Further Action."
Clean inspections are rare
Here's how first-visit inspections went in both counties from July 1 to Oct. 17:
| Duval County | St. Johns County | |
|---|---|---|
| Full first-visit routine inspections | 1,617 | 367 |
| Average violations per inspection | 8.0 | 7.1 |
| Had at least one high-priority violation | 71% | 77% |
| Had 2 or fewer violations | 14% | 16% |
| Businesses with zero violations on their latest full inspection | 38 | 5 |
So most inspections turn up something. Many problems are minor and get fixed on the spot, but a visit with no problems at all is the exception.

A few other places also earned clean inspections, including the Chuck E. Cheese on Atlantic Boulevard and food service at the Lowe's on Atlantic Boulevard.
Jacksonville food trucks with zero violations
Food trucks did especially well. Twenty trucks licensed in Duval County had a clean latest inspection. Trucks are listed by the base address the state has on file, which is where the truck is kept or prepped, not where it parks to sell. That's why a few show addresses outside Jacksonville.
- Mr Taco #5 (Beach Boulevard)
- Milano's Food Truck0 (Beach Boulevard)
- Taste of Jamaica Caribbean Cuisine0 (Beaver Street)
- Ninja Wings0 (West Beaver Street)
- Uncle Gene's Soul and Seafood0 (Timuquana Road)

St. Augustine and St. Johns County
Only five St. Johns County businesses had zero violations on their latest full state inspection. Two are historic inns in downtown St. Augustine that serve food to guests:
- Cedar House Inn0, 79 Cedar St. (July 29)
- Historic Sevilla House0, 14 Sevilla St. (Oct. 9)
And three food vendors:
- Uncle KC's Dogs0, 828 Anastasia Blvd. (Oct. 11)
- Uncle KC's Dogs and More0, 254 Vilano Road (Oct. 17)
- Mister Softee NE Florida0, 51 Ellis St. (Aug. 28)
No traditional sit-down restaurant in St. Johns County made the list this fiscal year. That doesn't mean St. Augustine restaurants are unsafe. As in Jacksonville, most inspections there turned up at least a few problems, and most were fixed.
Why so few?
Florida inspectors check dozens of items on every visit. They look at food temperatures, hand-washing, storage, pest control, equipment and employee practices. Even a well-run kitchen can be marked down for something small, like a missing thermometer or a sink without paper towels.
That's why one violation, or even several, doesn't mean a restaurant is unsafe. What matters most are high-priority violations and whether problems get fixed. A zero, though, means the inspector didn't find a single thing to write up.
Keep in mind
- An inspection is a snapshot of one visit. A place on this list could have problems on its next inspection, and a place not on it could have a clean one.
- This covers July 1 to Oct. 17, 2026, the current state fiscal year. Some businesses haven't had a full routine inspection yet this year.
- School cafeterias aren't included. They're inspected by the health department, not DBPR.
- Big chains and stadium stands are on the list alongside local spots. Inspectors use the same checklist for everyone.
